PDLT currently employees five full-time and one part-time staff member. Although small and fairly young, PDLT's team is energetic and brings a wealth of knowledge to the table.
Lyles joined PDLT in April 2015 as the Director of Education and Outreach and was promoted to Executive Director in October 2017. Lyles' professional experience spans multiple organizations in both the corporate and non-profit worlds. A graduate of College of Charleston with a degree in Corporate Communications and Marketing, Lyles brings a unique mix of skills to PDLT. Lyles is actively involved in many community organizations and currently serves on the board of the SC Land Trust Network. Lyles is married to Brandon, a Corporate Banker in Florence, and has a son, Woods. Growing up and having spent much of her childhood enjoying all the Pee Dee outdoors has to offer, she is passionate about helping preserve our resources for future generations in order to sustain a balance for economic growth in our state.
Seth joined the PDLT staff in April of 2013 upon completion of his Masters Degree in Ecosystem Management from Utah State. Seth, who was raised in Greenwood, received his undergraduate degree from Clemson in Environmental and Natural Resources and recently completed the MBA program through Francis Marion University. His family has farmed for many years in the Camden area and although he enjoys hunting and fishing, he and his wife, Erika, spend most of their time raising their three boys, Mclean, Nelson, and Cullen.
Hughes joined PDLT in 2017 as a Land Conservation Associate. He was born and raised in Marion, SC growing up around the family farm from an early age. Hughes graduated from Francis Marion University with a BS in Biology, minoring in History and Chemistry. Hughes is also a certified Master Naturalist through Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service and the South Carolina Wildlife Federation. Hughes has volunteered countless hours helping with conservation efforts, including helping to preserve and clean Lynches River of unnatural debris, along with educating others on the importance of keeping our water systems clean. Hughes and his wife, Heather, are both certified American Canoe Association Level II guides and spend their weekends running tours on Lynches River in Scranton, SC and chasing their son, Oliver.
Shannon Copes joined Pee Dee Land Trust in December of 2017 as Director of Education and Outreach. Shannon has gained many years of non-profit leadership expertise working with several organizations in the region. A native of the Pee Dee, Shannon is a graduate of the College of Charleston with a degree in Business Administration. She enjoys being active in the community and currently serves on the Boards of Mercy Medicine and the Miss South Carolina Scholarship Organization and is a member of St. John’s Church. Shannon is married to Scott, owner of GLC International. They, along with their sons, Graham and Lucas, enjoy camping, kayaking and taking in the natural beauty of the Pee Dee.
Ashley joined PDLT in fall 2011 as a part-time Finance and Administration Coordinator. Mrs. Scott has a wealth of office experience in the nonprofit and private sectors, but most recently took several years off to raise her young son, Ford. She is a graduate of the College of Charleston and is actively involved with First Presbyterian Church and the Women in Philanthropy Fund of the Eastern Carolina Community Foundation. Mrs. Scott is married to John, an attorney in Florence.
Rion joined PDLT as a part-time contractor in 2016 to assist with the ever expanding responsibilities related to our mission. In September 2017 Rion joined the team in a full time capacity as the new Outreach and Administration Coordinator. Over the years she has had the privilege of enjoying a wide variety of professional experiences including her most recent in the Hospitality Management sector. She is transplant from the salt water marshes and beaches of Hilton Head Island. Over the last 18 years, she has developed a love for the Pee Dee outdoors and has a real appreciation for the continued efforts of PDLT. Rion is married to Brandon, Director of Operations for the Florence Civic Center, with whom she shares two young daughters, Penelope and Cassidy-Jane.
Ariadne joined the PDLT team in May 2019 as our Outreach Intern. Ariadne is a senior at Clemson University, majoring in Parks, Recreation, Tourism, Management with a concentration in Travel and Tourism. Ariadne will be volunteering for PDLT experiences on the weekends and looks forward to moving back to Florence in the Spring to start her career.
