Flat Creek Church-Darlington, SC

Youth from Flat Creek Church in Darlington, SC took a leisurely stroll through Dargan Preserve on Monday. It was a fairly warm evening and there was little activity but they were still able to enjoy a peaceful evening. We were able to discuss invasive species and how it impacts non-native ecosystems, referring to Laurel Wilt Disease on the Redbay caused by the redbay ambrosia beetle, an Asia native. The beetles carry a pathogenic fungus which results in a wilt disease when Redbay trees are attacked by the bettle.  This is only one problematic cases (out of many) caused by the introduction of invasive species to non-native areas.

Thank you all for coming and discussing various topics with me during our walk to and from the creeks! It was a great way to end the day, as always.
