Events

The Pee Dee Land Trust is working to plan several outings for our members and friends during the Fall of 2009. Below are the dates of confirmed events. Check back frequently for updates as we expect to schedule several more.

Save the Date for the annual Oyster Roast:  Saturday, February 20th, 2010, at Hobcaw Barony in Georgetown County.  An optional tour of the home and grounds is back by popular demand as well!  Invitations have been mailed to current contributors in late January.

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010:  Book signing with Ben Moise at the Back Swamp School House in Florence County, 6pm.  Come hear outdoor author, Jim Casada, speak about Moise’s new book, “A Southern Sportsmen:  The Hunting Memoirs of Henry Edwards Davis.”

Saturday, March 20th:  Marsh Tacky Day at Hobcaw Barony.  PDLT has teamed up with the Francis Marion Trail Commission to offer a three-hour long horseback tour of Hobcaw, including an old-fashioned cowboy meal.  Come learn more about this diminishing breed of lowcountry workhorse.  Contact David Grant at (843) 858-0181 or davidgrant@bellsouth.net to register or for more information.

Saturday, April 17th:  Clemson Rural Heritage Day.    PDLT will once again be exhibiting at this day-long festival featuring many exhibits on topics from beekeeping to blacksmithing.  Go to www.clemson.edu/oet for more information.  The event is free and runs from 10am-4pm.

Friday, April 30th:  Bike Ride along S. Charleston Road in Darlington.  Take a Friday afternoon off and get some fresh air with your fellow land trust members.  We’ll meet at 3pm at the tobacco barns at 1800 S. Charleston Road and ride for about an hour or so.  Cost is $5/members, $10 non-members.

Sunday, May 2nd:  “Squirrel King and the Chickasaw Nation:  an Historical Lecture at the Williamsburgh County Museum.”  Chief Vernon Tanner, Ricky Cox, and Daryl Mullins will lead a discussion about the importance of this tribe to coastal South Carolina and its connections to General Francis Marion.  Co-sponsored by the Francis Marion Trail Commission.

SAVE THE DATE!    The annual gathering of the PDLT will be held on Sunday, June 6th from 2-5pm at the Ark Lodge in Marion County.  Thanks to Florie Ervin and James C. McLeod for providing the site for this fun-filled, family event.  Invitations will be mailed in late May.
